Price: P595
Bought from: DataBlitz (SM Marikina Branch)

If you’ve read my other keyboard review, you’d learn three things about me when it comes to the KB: one, it must be wireless because I’m a minimalistic freak; two, I’ve never been hyped up by those expensive RGB mechanical types; and three, I’ve got lots of other things to spend on so I try to be frugal on the everything that I buy. Case in point: I look for the best in the mid to low tiers.

That said, some might be curious on what I currently use right now so let me take this opportunity share with you what I have- meet the Elephant Metal General! A tried-and-tested beaut that I’ve been using for almost three years. This metal-plated keyboard, albeit not mechanical, is quite sturdy and functional in its own right.

For just P595, you get a responsive 2.4G wireless keyboard that blows other keyboards thrice its price out of the water. True that I’ve been very careful with it by ALWAYS sheathing it with a silicon cover and cleaning said cover every week, but we can’t hide the fact that it’s already almost three years old and it still looks and functions like new.

Okay, so it’s great for a good ol’ regular wireless keyboard. But how does it fare with competitive gaming? To be honest, I have no idea. What I can share with you though is my experience with it when I play real-time online games.

Exhibit A: Final Fantasy XIV. I do savage-tier endgame raids there and certainly, you’ll need the lowest latency you can in terms of internet and I/O lest you’ll be constantly wiping the floor. Learning the fights for days end certainly is no joke, but hey, I do decent DPS numbers and have zero deaths pertaining to keyboard latency so it passed my minimum requirements. It’s a whole different story though if PLDT fucks shit up.

Exhibit B: Other games and typing. I casually play FPS games like Overwatch, CS:GO and Paladins, and I really don’t notice anything different vs. a wired keyboard. I can kill opponents just fine and this keyboard certainly isn’t the reason why I die. It’s just because I’m a noob lol.

With regards to battery, two Energizer AAA’s last to about two months with everyday use.

Verdict

What can I say, it’s a wireless keyboard with features and quality way above its price point, and surely better than its competition at the same price range. It’s fine for casual and mid-core gaming, but with hardcore and competitive gaming, sadly I do not know. If you’re that curious, you can try it out for yourself as it only costs a measly P595.
